Speaker state recognition

Advances in communication and interaction with devices have a strong impact on development and improvement of quality of life. In this context, affective computing has emerged as an interdisciplinary research field of great interest. Current studies in the automatic recognition of speaker states aim to improve the fluidity, effectiveness and quality of human-machine interactions. These interfaces are useful in educational applications or automatic tutors, which could be considerably improved by giving these tools the ability to detect the interlocutor’s mood and degree of stress. The development of these technologies would also be useful for entertainment applications, home automation, call centers, alert systems, video conferencing, diagnostic assistance in psychology, applications for mobile devices and smart televisions, among other scenarios in which the recognition of emotional states is considered of great interest.
